Road fund system to be revived in Russia

“Last year 241 billion roubles were spent on financing the “Motor vehicle roads” sub-programme, whereas the total length of federal roads increased by 192 kilometres, or 0.4%,” Sergei Stepashin, head of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, said on 21 September 2010. He noted that it was necessary to achieve a reduction in road construction costs and declared that reviving the Federal Road Fund starting next year is the right thing to do.
The road fund system will be revived in Russia starting in 2011. Funds for the system will be collected from excise duties on oil products. (RIA Novosti, 21/09/2010).
